About Aeon of Strife
Aeon of Strife began as a project to teach me how to use
PHP &
MySQL. (I already knew SQL so the MySQL part was easy).
After getting ticked off with
Dreamweaver MX for not letting me load specific data (the good old citadel page wouldn't work because Dreamweaver just grabbed the first record from the database instead of the one of the person that logged in), I got an awesome program called
EditPlus and started using that to actually write out the code, and just used Dreamweaver as a syntax reference.
I first started out programming with my first web site with LI, (it was really lame) called ZingerZerglings. This was a site from which you could download
StarCraft utilities and maps, etc.
After that site got deleted because homepage.com closed down, I built StarCraft Fortress (another not-so-lame site) and registered my first domain on my sixteenth birthday, at scfortress.com. Unfortunately the site didn't really take off and after a while I understood why and removed it from the www.
The site never changed. It was always the same old thing time after time, which stopped people from coming back, because there wasn't really much point in coming back if there wasn't anything new to get was there?
After this point I started I.P.T. in high school and started learning how to make windows and DOS applications using
Pascal, using SQL databases, etc.
It was only after I finished school that I started getting other application development environments and teaching myself how to use them by starting off with a basic tutorial, and then just basically screwing around with it until I got it to do what I wanted it to do. (I still haven't figured out
Visual C++ though!)
Anyway it was around this time that one of my friends (Alex, aka Dragonmaster) showed me an online game called
Kings of Chaos. I thought it was really crappy at first but after I made an account I started getting addicted to it, and the actual game type, so I joined up with another online game called
Utopia, which in my opinion is WAY better than KoC but much more complicated (all those formulas!!!).
About a month or two before KoC started Age 2 I downloaded a program called
PHPTriad and a few tutorials and started tinkering with PHP and MySQl.
Aeon of Strife is the result of that tinkering. It hasn't exactly gone BOOM like KoC apparently did, but then again AoS wasn't made at school where 50 other people knew about it and started playing it straight away and spreading it around, was it?
So there is the somewhat boring story of how the world of Aeon of Strife was created.
